Introduction

I am Scott Jones, born and raised in Ohio, but most of my education and training came when I lived in Maryland.  I am licensed in the state of Florida as a mental health counselor (LMHC) since 2013 and certified in addictions (CAP) since 2013 in the state of Florida and a Qualified Supervisor for LMHC since 2016. I am a veteran of the Army, married for 10 years with one stepson who is 18, and have lived in Florida since 2011.  

Philosophy/Style

My style is active yet empathetic and caring.  This process is about letting you explain your struggles and me listening while offering suggestions and guidance.  It is important for me to earn your respect of emotions and to guide you in your challenges.  If you are thinking about this for the first time, it takes a lot of courage to start this process, but believe me you will be grateful you did.  For those that have been through this process, it takes a lot of courage to try again but I am determined to be an advocate for your happiness.

Relationships

This is the focus of all I do.  Your thoughts of coming to get help most likely have to do with a relationship or two that are in your life.  And I view just about all the struggles of those that come see me in the context of relationships.  I have over 15 years of counseling with many of those years helping couples, adults, teens and even small children.  No person is an island and some of my purpose is to restore the relationships in your life.

Solution Focused Therapy

I have experience in most mental health challenges along with addiction.  My focus is brief, solution focused sessions that give you practical ways to reduce symptoms and get back to where you want to be.  While some struggles in your life may need some extended time most difficulties can be decreased in a few sessions.  

Education/ Spirituality/ Nutrition and Exercise

While the processing of your struggles is important to me through thoroughly analyzing your situation I also use education towards your situation that helps you better understand how to cope better.  Spirituality is something I grew up with and is an important part of my life.  If it is for you also then we can discuss that, if it is not then I respect your position on this.  I also emphasize nutrition and exercise in sessions due to me realizing how these directly affect mood, sleep and other behaviors.  For those of who have experience in counseling I use cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness, and motivational interviewing to reduce symptoms and increase coping skills.   

Court Ordered Evaluations

If you have the need for a mental health or substance use evaluation I usually complete these in three sessions with recommendations following the evaluation.  I have details at the office on prices and the process.  

Getting back to “normal”

This is my goal.  In our fast-paced society you need solutions that can alleviate symptoms quickly.  While some symptoms may take time, we will create goals together in the first session to reduce negative feelings and get you back to your normal state of being!  I look forward to meeting with you on this most important time in your journey of life.
